Richard Sherman is officially dealing with a knee sprain, but head coach Kyle Shanahan is far from officially counting out the defensive star for next Sunday's meeting with the Saints.
"I mean, Sherm with what he’s done over his career, us being with him now going into our second year, he’s a guy that I would never rule out," Shanahan said on a conference call on Monday, listing the corner as day-to-day.
"I understand though. I see him walking the way you guys did, too. A normal person I probably would rule out just by the eye test," Shanahan continued. "But you can never rule those type of guys out. They usually find a way to get there and as long as they show us enough then you usually give those guys an opportunity."
On Wednesday, Sherman was a limited participant in the 49ers practice at the IMG Academy in Florida.
“Did some Mr. Miyagi stuff on him," Sherman said. "We’ll see, though. Sherm always battles. You expect him to be out there and hopefully he’ll get better each day. I know he’s not there all the way yet, but he’s got a few more days to do it and hopefully he’ll be good on Sunday.”
