Madison Bumgarner and Will Smith, the Giants’ foremost trade chips, survived deadline day. A whole bunch of other pitchers, including Drew Pomeranz, Mark Melancon and Sam Dyson, did not.
Bumgarner had a very Bumgarner-y response to his staying with his only MLB club.
President of baseball ops Farhan Zaidi addressed the decision to hold onto Bumgarner, the October legend.
“When he’s on your side, you always feel you have a chance," Zaidi said, per Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area
Here’s the recap on what was a wild Wednesday for Zaidi and friends:
The Giants filled the void on the pitching staff by summoning RHP Dereck Rodriguez, RHP Jandel Gustave and LHP Andrew Suarez from Triple-A Sacramento.
