Madison Bumgarner, the three-time World Series champ, has caught the attention of baseball’s most storied franchise. Well, sort of.

According to Jon Heyman, Bumgarner figures to be a backup plan for the Yankees, should the club fail to land Gerrit Cole.

Braves still appear to be interested in Madison Bumgarner. They’ve been seen as a logical spot all along, tho some wondered if the Hamels deal might take them out. No sense it has. Also linked to MadBum: STLCards, Reds, Dbacks, Angels, Twins, Yankees (likely as fallback to Cole).

To this point, money has been no object to clubs in pursuit of top-of-the-rotation starters.

Stephen Strasburg’s deal with the Washington Nationals is for seven years and $245 million, a source tells ESPN.

While Cole is rumored to be headed for a payday of better than $300 million, Bumgarner is purportedly angling for at least $100 million over five seasons. Not bad for a fallback.
