Nightengale: MadBum's 'preference' is to remain with Giants, but club has shown no interest

Madison Burmgarner, the longtime Giants ace, and now, free agent, would like to stick around at Oracle Park, per USA Today Sports' Bob Nightengale. The trick is that the feeling doesn't seem to be mutual.

"Bumgarner has pitched his entire career with the Giants, and his preference is to stay, but the Giants have shown no inclination to keep him," Nightengale reports.

A couple of MLB team officials also told Nightengale that they they think Bumgarner is headed for at least $100 million. That feels like a logic deduction in the aftermath of Zack Wheeler's reported five-year, $118 million pact with the Phillies.

Wheeler is just over a year younger than Bumgarner and the pair of pithcers boasted remarkably similar stat lines a season ago. Of course, there is a big difference.

If I were Bumgarner's agent, I'd throw out all the stats and then drop three rings on the table, in increasingly conspicuous fashion.
