Curb Your Obituary: Jets fan's family jokingly blames Gang Green in his obit

An obituary might not seem like the place to bring a little levity into a sad situation, but for the family of one Jets fan, jocularly pegging Gang Green as their loved one’s cause of death did just that.

Brooklyn-born Edward Mazur, 85, passed away on Dec. 9, and according to the obituary the family posted in Newsday this week, did so “we suspect to avoid having to watch another Jets game.”

Perhaps the family is just big fans of Larry David’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” a show that one saw David blame the Jets (and a little bit of the Knicks) for the death of his friend Carl (warning: graphic language):

Or, perhaps, Mr. Mazur was just a guy who would appreciate that note, as his obituary goes on to show how the Army veteran was clearly a man who was loved very much by his wife, three children, and six grandchildren, among others, and was the life of the party. He sure would have been beloved by WFAN, given his love of softball (Boomer), boating on the Great South Bay (Gio), and opinions that were often “not fit for print” (Craiggy, that you?) – come to think of it, perhaps there were lots of colorful words around Gang Green over Edward’s life that made the opening salvo fitting?

The Mazur family has requested that in lieu of flowers or other memorials, donations be made to the Long Island Alzheimer’s and Dementia Center.

Rest in peace, Edward Mazur, we hope you get to enjoy Jets-Rams this Sunday from up above.
