While many teams in NFL free agency are making moves to improve their Super Bowl odds, the Chicago Bears managed to do quite the opposite.
After news broke that the team agreed to a one-year deal to sign quarterback Andy Dalton, neither fans were impressed with the move nor sportsbooks.
The Bears odds to win it all in 2021 dropped from 40-1 to 50-1 at Williams Hill following the Dalton signing.
Dalton, 33, joins the injury-prone Nick Foles as the Bears quarterbacks on the current roster and, in all likelihood, will serve as the replacement for Mitchell Trubisky.
After nine years as a starter for the Cincinnati Bengals, Dalton started last season backing up Dak Prescott for Dallas before eventually taking over the starting role when Prescott went down with a season-ending injury in Week 5.
In 11 games, Dalton completed 64.9% of his passes for 2,170 yards and 14 touchdowns to eight interceptions. The Cowboys went 4-5 in the games he started, however.
Dalton’s numbers are not all that different from Trubisky’s 2020 season. In 10 games, the 26-year-old completed 67% of his passes for 2,055 yards, 16 touchdowns and eight interceptions and went 6-3 in his nine starts.
On the other hand, if for some reason there are Andy Dalton believers out there, now may be a good time to wager on the 2021 Bears winning the Super Bowl.
