Bob Myers supports NBA players decision to boycott games

'To have them take these steps, they're hurting and that's real'

We'll never forget what happened on Aug. 26, 2020. One of the most monumental moments in our lifetime occurred. It all started when the Milwaukee Bucks didn't take the court for Game 5 against the Orlando Magic in protest of the police shooting of 29-year-old Jacob Blake. The NBA formed a united front when the rest of the league decided not to play their games followed by the WNBA, and a few MLB teams including the San Francisco Giants.

Warriors GM Bob Myers joined Tim Kawakami on "The TK Show" podcast and talked about the historic day.

"I certainly know this, it gets people's attention," Myers said. "There's a light. Players, they're the ones that are putting themselves on the line here. Mostly them. You have to respect their position, you have to respect their thoughts behind it."

Myers continued, "It's just sad. Players want to play. You've gotta understand, this is not something I imagine they did light-heartedly or without thought or intention. You think they don't want to play a playoff game? To have them take these steps, they're hurting and that's real."

"These guys probably have lived their whole lives dreaming of playing in the playoffs, trying to win a championship. And to put that on hold, that's a real statement. That tells you how much it means to them and you have to respect that."

Thursday's games have been postponed but ESPN'S Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that NBA players decided they will finish the playoffs.

The discussion is ongoing when they will resume play but it'll most likely be Friday or Saturday.
