As if Mookie Betts getting traded and winning a World Series with the Dodgers wasn’t enough for Red Sox fans, the LA faithful had to rub salt on the wound.
The CEO of a Dodgers superfan group, Pantone294, bought a billboard across the street from Fenway Park that read, “Dear Boston, THANK YOU FOR MOOKIE BETTES. Sincerely, Dodger fans and @pantone294.”
The CEO posted a photo of himself in front of the billboard, located above Sal’s Pizza on Brookline Ave., and a drone video shot of the billboard from the superfan account — which shows the proximity of the troll to Fenway Park.
Betts, who won an MVP and World Series with the Red Sox, was traded to the Dodgers, along with David Price, in exchange for prospects Jeter Downs, Connor Wong and outfielder Alex Verdugo last winter.
The move angered Red Sox fans as the team made the deal in an effort to get under the luxury tax penalty.
Betts subsequently signed a 12-year, $365 million contract with the Dodgers. In 55 regular season games, Betts slashed .292/.366/.562 with 16 home runs, 39 RBI and 10 stolen bases for the Dodgers.
In the postseason he hit .296/.378/.493 with two home runs, eight RBI, eight doubles and 15 runs scored. Both of his home runs came in the World Series, including a solo home run in the eighth inning of Game 6 that punctuated the Dodgers’ 3-1 series-clinching victory.
So, yeah, Dodgers fans are enjoying having Betts on the team to say the least.
