PITTSBURGH (93.7 the Fan) – They not only fulfilled their athletic careers with their hometown school, three Pitt football players also starred academically.

Offensive lineman Brandon Ford, multiuse player Jim Medure and receiver Michael Vardel were named Wednesday to the Hampshire Honor Society by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame.

The Hampshire Honor Society is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who maintained a cumulative 3.2 grade-point average or better throughout their college career.

Ford, from Upper St. Clair, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in administration of justice after playing every game the past two seasons.

A true team first player, Neshannock’s Medure played linebacker, defensive end, tight end and fullback for the Panthers and was a three-year letterman.  Medure was initially a walk-on and earned a scholarship two seasons ago.  He earned a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences.

Vardzel, who is originally from Charleston, SC but played at North Allegheny, earned a letter his senior season and graduates with a bachelor’s degree in finance.
