Padres fans, and baseball fans in general, are collectively holding their breaths after what happened Monday night in San Diego.
Fernando Tatis Jr. left the game against the San Franicso Giants in the bottom of the third inning after collapsing to the ground following a swing.
The 22-year-old phenom swung and missed at a breaking ball and dropped the bat out of his left hand and felt to the ground, grabbing the areas of his left wrist and elbow.
Tatis was clearly in pain and look frustrated as he went back to the trainer’s room.
The Padres enter the 2021 season with high expectations in part because of Tatis, who they extended to a 14-year, $340 million deal in spring training.
If Tatis should miss an extended period of time, or worse — the season — it would be a huge blow to the organization and the sport that has embraced one of the bright, young stars in the game.
