Anthony Slater discusses Stephen Curry knee injury, Warriors closing lineups

Stephen Curry will come into Wednesday night's matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder as questionable with bilateral knee pain. He's been dealing with knee bursitis this season, which brings up the question of how concerned the Warriors should be about his health this season.

The Athletic's Anthony Slater joined the Morning Roast Wednesday and assessed the situation.

"He's 36, playing a long NBA season," Slater said. "And I think the the Warriors are being just transparent... I'm not saying he's for sure playing tonight. I think they're covering their bases, because if Steph Curry does miss a game that he previously was not listed on the injury report, especially a national TV game, that's not good. The Hawks just got fined for Trae Young.

"So I'm not saying he's definitely playing, because I think the words are putting that on there, just because there's, you know, there's a chance he does it, but it's also, in a lot of ways, just kind of protocol and the terminology might scare people, but basically his knees are sore."

Slater also said that his educated prediction is that Jonathan Kuminga (illness), who has missed the last two games but practiced Tuesday, will play against the Thunder.

He continued later to assess the Warriors' closing lineup with Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, Gary Payton II and Brandin Podziemski. Slater discussed whether Podziemski was the right choice to close over Moses Moody.

Moody, this is a four year question with him, right? I thought he was really good. That would have been the type of game you would have thought Moses Moody earned himself more minutes. Clearly, it didn't happen.

"That would have been the type of game you would have thought Moses Moody earned himself more minutes. Clearly, it didn't happen. And then as far as your Podziemski point, my read on it is like they're trying to get him going.

"I feel like, especially with Melton out, internally, there's a feeling of like importance for Podziemski to turn his season around. Because I do think over the course of the season, they believe he's not only important, there's a decent chance he's a starting two guard down the line."

Slater said he was open to arguments that Moody or even Lindy Waters should have played in those final minutes.
