Draymond Green remains 'head of the snake' for Warriors, Jim Barnett says

The Warriors will tip off the 2021-22 season Tuesday night against the Los Angeles Lakers, and long-time broadcaster Jim Barnett will be at Staples Center delivering color commentary on 95.7 The Game.

Barnett hopped on “The Morning Roast” with Bonta Hill and Joe Shasky Tuesday to preview the Warriors’ upcoming campaign and share his thoughts on the team’s strengths and weaknesses. Listen to the full interview here:

So, what’s the biggest flaw the Warriors have this year?

“Inside defense,” Barnett said. “They got to get help in there. It’s tough to go one-on-one with guys like Anthony Davis inside.Tonight, in fact, is a real good test with Anthony Davis, Dwight Howard, DeAndre Jordan, things like that. That’s a little Achilles heel for them, yet they’re going to be able to beat teams with speed and quickness.”

Barnett remains in awe of 33-year-old Steph Curry, saying he could see the superstar playing at a high level for a few more years until he’s 38. But Barnett said Draymond Green remains the team’s second-most important player given his ability to quarterback the defense.

“Without question, Draymond,” Barnett said. “The thing is, they were fifth in the league in defense last year. People forget that. They don’t realize that they really scramble around and cause problems with people. It starts with Draymond and it ends with Draymond. … He’s the head of the snake. He gets everybody going.”
