Game recognize game. Dunkers recognize dunkers.
Baron Davis authored the most memorable slam dunk in Warriors history in 2007, when he absolutely destroyed Utah Jazz forward Andrei Kirilenko in the second round of the playoffs. Baron’s got more company on the highlight reel, now.
In the fourth quarter of the Warriors’ 109-100 win Sunday over the Mavericks to take a 3-0 series lead in the Western Conference Finals, Andrew Wiggins elevated and threw down a monster slam over Dallas superstar Luka Doncic. Shortly after the dunk, Baron took to Twitter to show some love for Wiggins.
While Wiggins was initially whistled for a charge, a successful challenge by Warriors coach Steve Kerr overturned the call and preserved the dunk for the record books.
The highlight would have lived forever anyways, but it would have been a shame if it didn't count. Good thing the NBA got this one right.
Wiggins went on to score a playoff career-best 27 points while going 11-of-20 from the field and showing a lot of aggressiveness. Klay Thompson said he looked like Dominique Wilkins flying around the floor Sunday night.
If the Warriors go on to beat the Mavericks – a sweep will be possible on Tuesday night in Game 4 at Dallas – Wiggins’ dunk will undoubtedly be remembered as the moment of the series.
Warriors forward and die-hard Dub Nation member Juan Toscano-Anderson even shared a photoshop of Wiggins’ face on Baron’s body from 2007, with his trademark lift-the-jersey celebration.
Just as Davis’ dunk is still replayed 15 years later, we can expect to see Wiggins’ slam being replayed by Dub Nation in 2037.
