Warriors guard Donte DiVincenzo will miss the next week of action as he recovers from a hamstring injury he suffered in Sunday night’s contest against the Sacramento Kings.
Coach Steve Kerr said DiVincenzo won’t fly with the team for a quick one-game trip to Phoenix and his travel status for a subsequent road trip this week is still unknown.
DiVincenzo suffered the injury while going for a block attempt, as noted by The Athletic’s Anthony Slater.
“We will continue to look at different combinations and different lineups,” Kerr said Monday. “We’ll have to adjust.”
Following Tuesday’s game against the Suns, the Warriors will return to Chase Center for a Thursday night matchup against the Miami Heat. Then Golden State is slated to go on a five-game, eight-day road trip through Charlotte, Detroit, Miami, Orlando and New Orleans from Friday through Nov. 4.
DiVincenzo, who was signed as a free agent this past offseason, has slotted as the backup point guard for the Warriors second unit to begin the year. Kerr said that guard Ty Jerome will be activated for the first time this season in Phoenix on Tuesday.
“He can hoop,” guard Moses Moody said of Jerome. “We’ve been hooping on off days, scrimmaging, doing 3-on-3. He’s got a nice pace to his game. He can shoot the ball real well and create for others.”
Kerr has told reporters that the Warriors are intrigued by Jerome’s size (6-foot-5, 195 pounds) and ability to be a pass-first point guard, despite his listing as a shooting guard.
Jerome has also vaulted up the totem pole for the time being, as rookies Patrick Baldwin Jr. and Ryan Rollins have been assigned to Santa Cruz in the G League for development.
“They need to work, they need to play in every environment,” Kerr said. “They need to feel all the patterns on both ends of the floor, they need the competition. So this will be really good work for them the next few days. We imagine they’ll play a lot of minutes in Santa Cruz this year because of our roster situation, the vets we have, and how much they need to play.”
