It’s still not fully clear why Draymond Green was given a flagrant two instead of a flagrant one Sunday evening.
And it appears it will remain a mystery.

Green was slapped with a highly-controversial flagrant two foul during the Golden State Warriors’ Game 1 win over the Memphis Grizzlies. He was ejected as a result, and another flagrant two would result in him getting suspended one game.
There was hope for Green and the Warriors that, upon review, the NBA would knock down the infraction to a flagrant one, at the very least. But they had no such fortune, and Green asserted Monday on his podcast that he still doesn’t know why it was a two.
“They didn’t have a good explanation, they never have a good explanation,” Green said (2:35 in player above). “Sometimes they don’t even give an explanation. The explanation to me wasn’t good, they didn’t really want to explain it to me, they told (general manager Bob Myers) to tell me.”
As long as they’re upholding the original call, it doesn’t ultimately matter what the NBA’s explanation is since nothing is going to change.
Still though, Green plays a brand of basketball that sometimes lends itself to these things happening, right or wrong. It’s what has made him such a successful player and, credit to him, he has no plans to change his style of play.
So, this isn’t the first time something like this has happened to Green, and there’s a good chance it won’t be the last.
