The past couple weeks have been wild for Warriors superfan Christian “Splash Kuya” Gamboa.
It all started at Game 7 in Sacramento, when he went viral while wearing an orange throwback Steph Curry jersey from the 2009-10 season with the lightning bolts.
Standing in a sea of white shirts, Gamboa yelled as Steph extinguished The Beam, before getting Gary Payton II’s autograph and being hospitalized for dehydration, as he told 95.7 The Game.
After the Game 2 victory over the Lakers in San Francisco last week, Curry gave his pair of game-used shoes to Gamboa and met him and his family. Gamboa’s great energy and unfiltered love for the Warriors was undeniable as he had a “once-in-a-lifetime” experience.
Gamboa kept riding the wave for Game 4 in Los Angeles last week, saying he almost maxed out a new credit card while buying $4,000 seats a couple rows near the floor to make his voice heard at Crypto.com Arena.
Other Warriors fans reached out to Gamboa asking for his Venmo (@SplashKuya) and CashApp ($SplashKuya) so they could support his journey. The response has been huge with Dub Nation, as Gamboa will be back in the building with his orange Curry jersey for Game 6 on Friday as the Warriors try to keep their season alive.
Gamboa witnessed a tough Warriors loss in the Game 4 defeat, as Steph had a triple-double but his supporting cast fell flat. He also tweeted that a woman tried to have him kicked out of his seat because he was cheering and banging his thunder sticks, but no one could kill his vibe during the game.
The Splash Kuya Effect is best felt on the road and he likes to be close to the floor so opposing players can hear his voice. It’s like he’s a living, breathing piece of Oracle Arena that follows the Warriors wherever they go, and Dub Nation can’t get enough.
