Giants trade Joey Bart for minor league pitcher

The Joey Bart era is officially over in San Francisco. After the team designated Bart for assignment, the Giants reached an agreement with the Pittsburgh Pirates on a trade for the former No. 2 overall pick.

In exchange for Bart, the Giants picked up minor league pitcher Austin Strickland. Strickland was an eighth-round pick by the Pirates in 2023, hailing from the University of Kentucky.

Strickland hasn't debuted professionally yet, but has at least a mid-90s fastball. He posted a 5.04 ERA in his final year at Kentucky. In his one inning of spring training work, he allowed a walk and no hits. An absolutely riveting sample size.
