The Dubs Dynasty has spanned a generation’s worth of NBA players.
Gone are the old guard of teams like the Tim Duncan-led Spurs. Now the Warriors are competing against guys who were youngsters when they won their first title as a group in 2015.
“I remember watching the game,” Celtics guard Grant Williams said Wednesday at NBA Finals media day. “I was going for the Warriors then, back in the day because I was a Draymond (Green) guy. That was a fun moment for me because my teammates were all going for Bron ... All these guys were betting on the Cavs and when they beat them, I talked so much trash for a week."
Williams was just a teenager when Golden State was battling LeBron James and the Cavaliers in four straight finals. Now he’s got a chance to take down one of his childhood idols.
"It's kind of funny to come into this arena, into Chase Center, and play against a team that's still together, with them having the success that they've had," Williams said “You acknowledge that, but at the same time, I'm not a fan anymore. It's one of those things where you're just excited to compete against those guys and hopefully create those memories for some college kids that are coming up."
A lot has changed over the past seven years, but the Splash Brothers are still running The Bay. WIlliams said chasing around Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole should be a challenge throughout the seven-game series.
“They’re unlike any other team,” Williams said. “This team has that physical nature, but they’re a lot more able to make shots, a lot more movement, a lot more chasing. I feel like our team’s built for that. We’re built for – not only that – but the physical nature. Chasing those guys like Steph, Klay, Jordan – we know how much they move off the ball. But they’re just as much a threat on the ball as they are off.”
