Joe Lacob was just like the rest of Dub Nation on Sunday afternoon.
Potentially the fate of the Warriors-Kings series floated off the fingertips of Harrison Barnes in final seconds of Sunday’s tense Game 4. On the game’s final possession, Barnes got a good look at a 3-pointer to win the game and Lacob, the energetic Warriors owner, literally had a front-row seat to the shot’s arc.
When it clanked off the iron and the Warriors held on to the 126-125 victory, Lacob clasped his hands together and looked skyward, thanking the basketball gods while wearing his yellow T-shirt.
Lacob wears his emotions on his sleeve, but that was even hilarious by his standards.
The victory was two-fold for Lacob. Not only did his team even up the epic first-round series at 2-2, but the win ensured that the series would stretch to six games, ensuring another home date for the Warriors regardless of who wins Wednesday’s Game 5. Cha ching for Lacob.
Much of the Warriors’ ability to aggressively spend has been eased by the team’s six NBA Finals runs over the previous eight seasons, as playoff money can add tens, if not hundreds of millions of extra dollars to the coffers.
Considering the Warriors’ luxury tax bill only figures to keep rising next season and president of basketball operations/general manager Bob Myers will command a hefty extension to stick around, Lacob wants as many home playoff games as he can get.
