Warriors owner Joe Lacob wants Steph Curry to match LeBron's four titles

Steph Curry’s career is finite. One day, the game’s greatest shooter will have to hang up his sneakers and the Warriors will have to live life after No. 30.

For now, though, Curry is still in his prime. During the past two playoff-free seasons, many gave the Warriors flack for wasting two years of Curry’s career. Warriors owner Joe Lacob doesn’t see it as a fair criticism, though.

During a lengthy interview with 95.7 The Game’s “The Morning Roast” Wednesday, Lacob defended his organization's efforts to surround Curry with a winning team. You can hear the full interview above.

“It drove me crazy,” Lacob said of the criticism. “We’re not wasting anything. We have the highest payroll in the history of the NBA, by a longshot. We are all in. We are going as far as we can.”

Lacob has a point.

Golden State’s payroll currently sits north of $184 million, far past the $112 million salary cap and $136 million luxury tax threshold. The luxury tax they pay is more than some teams’ payrolls.

While injuries and poor roster construction have hurt the Warriors the past two seasons, they look like contenders again in 2021. After seeing his team jump out to a 9-1 record through the first 10 games, Lacob wants to help Curry add another ring to his resume to match LeBron James’ four titles.

“I really want to see Steph get into that pantheon,” Lacob said. “At least equal to him. … [James] is incredible, everyone knows who he is, he’s incredible. He’s got four championships and Michael [Jordan] had six and so on. Steph Curry’s one of the greatest players to ever play in this league. I, personally, would love to see him have as many as any of those guys. Whether its one more, two more or three more. So that’s our goal.”
