Andrew Wiggins’ most famous fan is in The Bay. K-Pop superstar BamBam, part of the wildly popular Got7 boy band which has millions of stans across the world, took a tour of Chase Center on Tuesday afternoon.
During the Warriors' contest against the Los Angeles Lakers Thursday night, BamBam is slated to reveal some new music during a halftime show.
After Wiggins got off to a hot start for the Warriors in the first half, he emerged on the fringe of the All-Star starters in the initial rounds of fan voting returns. Once BamBam sent out a tweet to his nearly 10 million followers, Wiggins vaulted into starter’s position. The fan vote accounted for 50 percent of the tally and Wiggins eventually got the starting nod, sharing the floor with teammate and eventual All-Star Game MVP Steph Curry.
"I'll never forget him," Wiggins said in January. "I thought it was pretty cool. He’s a pretty popular guy and he helped me get a ton of votes.”
Wiggins and BamBam got to meet Tuesday at the Warriors practice facility, too.
Wiggins has largely floundered since the midsummer showcase, but is starting to show signs of a rebound. In Sunday’s 109-90 win over the Sacramento Kings, Wiggins dropped 25 points with five rebounds and five assists.
As popular as Curry, Wiggins and Warriors are, BamBam is on another level when it comes to social media influence. K-pop stans retweet and re-share digital content unlike any other group out there. The Dubs have become a global brand over the past few years for shrewd PR moves like this and even named BamBam a global fan ambassador earlier this year.
