The Warriors caused a stir last week after bringing in 37-year-old Dwight Howard for a workout, but it appears they have passed on the big man for now.
Kendra Andrews of ESPN joined 95.7 The Game’s “The Morning Roast” Monday to discuss the Dubs’ intrigue with Howard and why the two sides haven't come to an agreement.
“Of course Dwight Howard, that raises people’s eyebrows,” Andrews told hosts Bonta Hill & Joe Shasky. “That’s a shiny name, people latch onto that and they start thinking of all these hypotheticals or start getting really excited or they get, ‘Oh my god, you have to do that.’ But from the Warriors perspective, it was just another one of their workouts. They looked at it exactly the same.”
Golden State currently has two open full-time roster spots heading into training camp, which begins next Monday. They could definitely use some big-man depth behind starting center Kevon Looney, but it appears they will look elsewhere to fill out their bench.
Jason Dumas of KRON4 and 95.7 The Game reported that the Warriors veterans were on board with adding Howard and he even worked out with Chris Paul and Draymond Green in Los Angeles. Still, the Warriors are keeping their options open.
“They didn’t head into anything saying, ‘We’re working out this guy to confirm that we’re going to sign him,’” Andrews said. “They ultimately decided they don't want to sign him imminently, like in this moment. There’s still a lot of time for things that could happen, but they want to head into training camp with some flexibility.”
