Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has always been a leading voice within the sports world when it comes to speaking out against hate and injustice and once again he was using his platform to condemn the rise of Asian-American hate crimes.
Following a mass shooting in Atlanta, which left eight dead — including six Asian women — Kerr tweeted a thread speaking out against the hate and prejudice the Asian community has seen since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
Yet, for some reason, one former athlete seemed to take this thread as a personal shot toward him.
Former MLB pitcher Mark Mulder was among those who responded to Kerr and was unusually defensive, taking Kerr’s general statement of anti-hate as a personal affront.
Mulder tweeted at Kerr, “not once have I ‘connected’ COVID and Asian Americans, nor has it crossed my mind. Be better.”
Mulder’s response was odd, considering the thread was not directed toward him, and no one was accusing the former left-hander of these things within the thread.
The only individual Kerr referenced was the former president, Donald Trump, condemning him for referring COVID-19 to terms such as the “Asian Flu.”
Yet, Mulder still felt the need to get defensive.
