When Bob Myers stepped down as president/general manager of the Warriors a couple weeks ago, 95.7 The Game host Matt Steinmetz started texting with Golden State owner Joe Lacob.
Steiny isn’t one to hold his tongue, so he shared his candid thoughts with Lacob and told him the dynasty is on the verge of ending. Very on-brand, right?
During Friday’s “Steiny & Guru” show, Steinmetz recalled the conversation with his co-host Daryle ‘The Guru’ Johnson and described why he likes Lacob so much.
“I said, ‘Joe, to be honest with you, I don’t think you guys can stay relevant over the next five, 10 years.’ I said, ‘All dynasties come to an end. You’re in a period right now where you’re in a really tricky spot. You’re in uncharted waters in terms of keeping (players).’ I said, ‘I just don’t see it Joe.”
“This is a long text,” Guru said. “Tell me the response.”
“This is why he’s great,” Steiny said. “He said, ‘I appreciate that, keep saying it. Because I love proving people wrong.’ But the point is he doesn’t take it personally.”
“I love that,” Guru said. “He knows where you’re coming from.”
“He said, ‘We’re gonna win again,’” Steiny said. “I said, ‘Good luck.’”
So if the Warriors ever make it back to the mountaintop, you can thank Steiny.
