Draymond Green is back, folks.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Green, who has missed the last 12 games due to an indefinite suspension following a swing on Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkic, has been reinstated by the NBA.
Green has reportedly been undergoing counseling following a string of on-court physical incidents. His punch of Jordan Poole was obviously his most notable last season, and was evidently a factor in the Warriors dealing Poole to the Washington Wizards. Green said after the incident that he would take time away from the team to "continue to work on myself," but was not suspended.
This indefinite suspension was his fourth since the Poole incident.
He was suspended one game in 2023 for exceeding the season-long technical foul limit of 16 on March 15.
In Game 2 of the Warriors' first-round playoff series with the Sacramento Kings, Green stomped on Domantas Sabonis' chest after Sabonis held his ankle after a play. He was suspended the following game.
This season, Green was given a five-game suspension after putting Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert in an extended headlock following an incident between Klay Thompson and Jayden McDaniels.
Just six games after serving that five-game suspension, Green hit Nurkic, and has been sidelined since.
It is not immediately clear how quickly Green will return to the team. On Tuesday of this week, Steve Kerr said that Green and the team needed time and space away from each other, and that he had not been around. By Thursday, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Green would return to the team "in the coming days."
With the suspension lifted, it would seem the impediments for Green's return would be confirming his conditioning and readiness to play, as well as Kerr and the team's comfortability bringing him back into the fold.
Given the imploding nature of the team's last-second loss to the Denver Nuggets Thursday, that appetite is probably higher than it was before.
