The dueling personalities of Warriors rookies Patrick Baldwin Jr. and Ryan Rollins were on full display Thursday at the 95.7 The Game studios, as they joined “Damon & Ratto” for a lively 30-minute conversation.
While neither guy is super outspoken, there’s a little bit more of an edge to Rollins, who was drafted No. 44 overall in the second round. Baldwin, who was picked at No. 28, carries himself with the maturity expected of a coach's son.
Asked for about their first purchases with their NBA contracts, the 20-year-old Rollins gave a pretty typical response for a young, new millionaire.
“I got an AMG. Mercedes,” Rollins told hosts Damon Bruce and Larry Krueger (filling in for Ray Ratto).
And for PBJ?
“I also got a pair of wheels, but it’s a bike, it’s an e-bike,” Baldwin said. “That was my big purchase so far.”
The two first-round picks have been pretty lock step in their first few months as teammates, as they got to know each other and the city with a tour of Japantown while also taking a boat ride on the Bay this summer. Now Baldwin and Rollins find themselves sandwiching Steph Curry in the locker room.
“He’s great,” Rollins said. “He’s a humble superstar. That’s what he is. Everybody knows who Steph Curry is. He’s one of the greatest shooters of all-time. To see him so humble and down to earth, it’s heartwarming. I love it.”
Both players have guaranteed deals for the next two seasons and are expected to spend the bulk of their time developing in the G League with the Santa Cruz Warriors.
“I’m cool with that,” Rollins said. “I’m gonna put in the work and keep getting better. We got a loaded roster."
"I’m just taking care of business for whenever my number gets called,” Baldwin said.
