Pop jokes that Steph is no longer in Olympic consideration after embarrassing Spurs

Despite a storied NBA career over the past decade, Steph Curry has never played in the Olympics and, if what Spurs and Team USA head coach Gregg Popovich said is any indication, he may not get his chance in 2021.

Popovich, who will act as the head coach for Team USA for the first time in his career after Mike Krzyzewski coached the last three Olympics, is holding a (not that serious) grudge against the Warriors star after he dropped 32 points on the Spurs, including a ridiculous circus shot.

"[Popovich] told me after the game that he had been considering Steph for the Olympic team, but he said after the way Steph embarrassed him tonight he's no longer in consideration," said Warriors coach Steve Kerr with a laugh (via ESPN's Nick Friedell).

Classic Pop, but more importantly, classic Steph. He's been given a massive workload to shoulder for a Warriors team that found itself, once again, without Klay Thompson. But he's living up to the challenge, for the most part, ranking second in points per game (29.5), first in three-pointers made (117) and third in Value Over Replacement Player (1.9), trailing only Nikola Jokic and LeBron James.

He hasn't had as much help as he'd probably like, the but the Warriors are still over .500 —they're 13-12, thanks to Tuesday night's victory over the now-14-11 Spurs — and he's doing all that he can. As you'd expect, his teammates and coaches are taking notice.

And, as Pop's joke suggests, so are his adversaries. But a performance like this, in reality, will only help Curry's case to make his Olympic debut in 2021. As of now, the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games are supposed to start on July 23, 2021, though there is some skepticism that everything will actually work out.
