According to a report from SportsNet New York's Ian Begley, the Dallas Mavericks recently gauged the interest in a trade involving Kristaps Porzingis with the Golden State Warriors.
The report comes just hours after a separate report surfaced overnight from Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer, that the Mavs were gauging interest from team's around the league to determine the trade value of Porzingis.
"They've definitely sniffed around on him," an assistant general manager told Fischer. "They're taking the temperature because they know at some point it's gonna come around."
In terms of the talks with the Warriors, however, the specificity of what the two teams discussed in regards to a deal are unclear.
Given the inconsistency of the Porzingis this season, as well as his struggles with injuries since his arrival in Dallas, the return on a deal with any team for his services is likely significantly less than it would have been before the beginning of the season.
After missing the first nine games of the season while recovering from his offseason surgery, Porzingis has averaged 20.5 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game in 17 appearances, and has missed three additional games due to cautionary measures.
Those stats, while not drastically different from what he put up for the Mavs last season, do not reflect his significant struggles on the defensive end of the floor, where the bulk of his on-court concerns have arisen in recent weeks.
With Porzingis on the floor, the Mavs have statistically been one of the worst defensive teams in the entire NBA.
Since his rookie season, in which he played 72 games, Porzingis has yet to play anything close to resembling an entire season, playing 66 games in 2016-17, 48 games in 2017-18, missing the entire 2018-19 season and playing just 57 games last season.
Moreover, following the trade from the New York Knicks, in which the Mavericks sent two first round picks, former lottery pick Dennis Smith Jr., DeAndre Jordan, and Wesley Matthews in exchange for the 25-year old, Porzingis has played just 74 of a possible 199 games with the Mavericks.
Porzingis most recently missed the Mavs 102-92 win over the Memphis Grizzlies with a back injury.
