The NBA All-Star Game is coming back to The Bay.
Shams Charania of The Athletic reported Thursday that the Warriors are set to host the 2025 NBA All-Star Game at Chase Center, 25 years after they hosted the event at the Oakland Arena.
The Warriors keep on pushing the momentum they’ve built since 2015, with their dynasty run in Oakland aiding the construction of the Chase Center, which was opened in 2019 and finally gets to be the hub of the basketball world for a weekend.
We’re still one-and-a-half seasons away from the game, but you can almost be sure that Steph Curry will be voted in as a starter if he’s healthy. You can only imagine the type of show Steph might put on in front of the home fans, as he dropped 50 points and hit 16 3-pointers in the 2022 All-Star Game in Cleveland.
It’s worth noting that Curry will be 37 in February 2025, while Draymond Green and Klay Thompson will be 35. Considering they could be near the end of their careers, making the All-Star Game at home could be a nice carrot for The Big Three to chase next season.
The last time it was here, All-Star Weekend in Oakland was immortalized by an all-time Vince Carter performance in the Slam Dunk contest.
The game featured legends in their primes like Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, Tim Duncan, Allen Iverson and Ray Allen. They actually played a little defense, too.
NBA All-Star Weekend has gone downhill in recent years, as the game has become a sham and the Slam Dunk contest has gotten weaker and weaker. This season's contest will be held on Feb. 18, 2024.
Still, Warriors owner Joe Lacob is probably popping a bottle of champagne right now, as the event will only add more money to his coffers and shine a spotlight on his pearl of a stadium by The Bay.
