Shorthanded Warriors offer updates on five injured players

The shorthanded Warriors will have to hold down the fort for the rest of the homestand.

On Wednesday afternoon, the organization offered injury updates on their five players who have been sidelined recently – Steph Curry (left shoulder), Andrew Wiggins (illness), JaMychal Green (leg infection), Jonathan Kuminga (right foot sprain) and James Wiseman (left ankle sprain).

According to the update, Curry will be re-evaluated Saturday, Wiggins will be evaluated later this week and Green, Kuminga and Wiseman will all be re-evaulated in one week.

While Wiggins has been ruled out of Wednesday’s game against the Detroit Pistons, it appears he could return on Saturday against the Orlando Magic or Tuesday against the Phoenix Suns. The two-way star missed 10 games with an adductor strain before missing the past four due to illness.

The Warriors will open a five-game road trip at San Antonio on Jan. 13, when they are targeting a possible return for Curry, who will miss his 10th consecutive game on Wednesday. Jan. 13 also appears to be the earliest possible return dates for Green, Kuminga and Wiseman.

Green has been out since Dec. 18 – Wednesday marks his eighth straight missed game – as he was initially out due to the NBA’s health and safety protocols before getting a leg infection, which the Warriors don’t believe is serious.

Kuminga was spotted in a walking boot during Monday’s game after injuring himself on Friday against the Portland Trail Blazers. Wiseman’s injury plagued career has hit another setback, as he has played in just 19 NBA games this season.

Golden State’s frontcourt is decimated and it’s led to more minutes for Anthony Lamb and rookie Patrick Baldwin Jr. Moses Moody only got 11 minutes on Monday before staying late until about 1 a.m. PT that night putting up shots, so you can guess he’s eager to get in the rotation heavier.

Despite the injuries, Golden State is 5-0 on its current homestand and 6-3 without Steph and Wiggins. Considering Andre Iguodala isn’t ready to make his season debut, coach Steve Kerr has 10 healthy players at the moment:

1. Donte DiVincenzo, G
2. Jordan Poole, G
3. Klay Thompson, G
4. Draymond Green, F
5. Kevon Looney, F/C

6. Ty Jerome, G
7. Anthony Lamb, F
8. Moses Moody, F
9. Patrick Baldwin Jr., F
10. Ryan Rollins, G
