Summertime Steiny is bringing scorching hot takes to the airwaves.
During Monday’s edition of 95.7’s “Steiny & Guru”, host Matt Steinmetz offered up an eye-opening suggestion for the new-look Warriors, as they get set to integrate veteran point guard Chris Paul into the lineup.
Steph Curry has been a selfless superstar and face of the franchise – but would he be willing to come off the bench for the benefit of the team? Steiny floated the possibility to Guru, who quickly called it a “crazy take.” Check out the full exchange on YouTube below, along with a quick transcript of the opening remarks.
STEINY: I’m not saying they should do it. I’m not saying, ‘If they don’t they’re wrong.’ I’m not saying that, at all. … I’m sorry, Bay Area, but you know what floated across my dome? What if the best thing for the team – is Steph Curry coming off the bench?
GURU: Steiny, that will never happen.
STEINY: There have been things that we didn’t think were gonna happen and they end up happening. I’m not advocating for it …
GURU: That’s a crazy take.
STEINY: In a crazy way, I don’t think it is, and here’s why. You can make it make sense playing basketball. First off, Curry’s gonna play essentially the same amount of minutes, and of course he’s on the floor at the end of games. But sometimes with the Warriors, I feel, that Steph is such an explosive scorer, but he starts out the game as a point guard. Don’t the Warriors have a lot of first quarters where they’re down and Steph hasn’t really done much, because he’s playing like a point guard.
GURU: I got you. But what would CP3 do in his place at this juncture of his career, who’s not a scorer.
STEINY: He would get Klay going right away, he would get Wiggins going right away. He’d play 6 or 7 minutes and come out, and now Curry comes into the game and because he’s coming in off the bench, he’s aggressive. And at the end of our first quarter now, it says Curry played 6 or 7 minutes, but he got 5 or 6 shots up right off the bat.

What do you think, Dub Nation? Is Steiny off his rocker with this one? Coach Steve Kerr has a lot to figure out heading into 2023-24.
