Steiny's Sources: Mike Dunleavy Jr. in line to succeed Bob Myers as Warriors GM

Steiny Bomb!

95.7 The Game host Matt Steinmetz dusted off the rolodex and cited sources, who have told him that Mike Dunleavy Jr. is in line to succeed Bob Myers. Steinmetz dropped the news during “Steiny & Guru” on Friday with co-host Daryle ‘The Guru’ Johnson.

“The next GM of the Warriors is gonna be Mike Dunleavy, according to my sources,” Steiny said. “They got to agree to money, but if the money’s right, Dunleavy’s gonna be here. If he’s not here, it means the money wasn’t right.”

Steiny later gave Guru the update with his best Adrian Wojnarowski impression, so you know it’s real.

Dunleavy, 42, was hired by the Warriors as a pro scout in 2018 before being elevated to assistant general manager in 2019. He’s viewed as one of the top internal candidates along with executive VP of basketball operations Kirk Lacob, the son of Warriors owner Joe Lacob. Dunleavy reportedly represented Golden State at recent pre-draft GM meetings in Chicago.

Myers also gave his blessing to Dunleavy during his exit press conference earlier this week.

“It will be great, if that's what he wants,” Myers said. “But it's his call. It's Joe's call. It's not my call. But if that's what he wants to do, he'll be great. He knows more about basketball than I do. He grew up in it. He was born into it with his dad; he played in it.”
