Tuesday night’s contest between the Warriors and Suns will always be remembered as The Klay Thompson Ejection Game, but it was also a special one for Steph Curry, as he faced off against his brother-in-law Damion Lee.
It served as a nice finishing note to a heated 134-105 Suns victory that included seven technical fouls in the third quarter and Klay’s ejection after Devin Booker got under his skin.
Lee signed a one-year veteran deal with Phoenix this past offseason after a four-year run by Steph’s side at Golden State. After the game, the family members exchanged jerseys and posed for a photo op.
This actually marked the second time that Curry and Lee faced each other. Back in March 2018 – about seven months before Lee married Curry’s sister, Sydel – Lee played against the Warriors and Curry as a member of the Atlanta Hawks.
While Steph dropped 21 points in 30 minutes, Lee scored five points in 15 minutes off the bench for the Suns. It marked the first contest in four games that Curry didn’t score at least 33 points.
Lee is a rotation player for the Suns and made a memorable debut in the season opener, when he hit a game winning shot in the closing seconds. Steph, of course, woke up his 4-year-old son, Canon, celebrating the bucket.
The Warriors have already had mini-reunions with former teammates like Juan Toscano-Anderson (Lakers), Gary Payton II (Blazers) and former coaches Mike Brown and Leandro Barbosa (Kings) in the preseason and the regular season. Golden State will pay a visit to Otto Porter Jr. and the Toronto Raptors on Dec. 18.
