Steph Curry’s “Underrated” documentary is out on Apple TV+ and it’s a must-watch for Dub Nation.
We all know Steph’s story well – as the scrawny kid emerged out of the shadow of his 16-year NBA veteran father to become a basketball legend.
On Friday morning, Robert Littal of Black Sports Online interviewed Steph about the biggest takeaway he’d like fans to have when watching the documentary.
“We all grow and evolve over the course of our lives and even our careers, or whatever you decide to pursue,” Curry said. “There’s always a starting point. Today in our society, the way things work, social media and the attention span of people – you see a lot of the finished product, but you don’t really appreciate the journey and even have the space to understand the place where someone truly came from and how far they’ve grown and what ingredients went into the mix to make it happen.”
By now, we know Curry as a nine-time All-Star with four championship rings, two MVPs and a Finals MVP, but he wants people to know how he got there in the first place.
“To have this medium to share that origin story and understand the amazing people I’ve had in my life to help me get where I’m at, and relationships with my family and people that supported me,” Curry said. “Me and Ayesha and us growing into this world that we’re in and the platforms that we both have and being able to honor those and continue to try and uplift people – we all come from somewhere and I’m just blessed to have the ability to share that full story arc to where I am right now and hopefully inspire people to develop a work ethic, a perseverance and a process that they can enjoy on a daily basis. Everybody wants to be so results based and results oriented and you skip out on the joy of the journey.”
