Steph Curry exits Warriors-Pacers early with left shoulder injury

With the way the Warriors are struggling on the road, the last thing they want to see is Steph Curry out with an injury.

The Warriors superstar had to exit the floor with a couple minutes left in the third quarter Wednesday night after injuring his left shoulder while reaching for the ball on a steal attempt. The Warriors confirmed the injury in the fourth quarter as he missed the final part of the Pacers' 125-119 victory.

As Pacers forward Jalen Smith drove toward the hoop, Curry swiped at the ball with his left hand and immediately started grimacing and clutching his left shoulder. After sitting on the bench in apparent pain, Curry ran back to the Warriors locker room. Check out video of the injury below:

Golden State coach Steve Kerr told reporters after the game that Curry will undergo an MRI Thursday to reveal the severity of his injury.

"We'll see how he is tomorrow," Kerr said. "I just checked in with him briefly, but haven't had a chance to go into detail with him. Steph's always a guy with a great outlook on life. He was in good spirits and we'll hope for the best."

Before getting injured, Curry was on fire, scoring 38 points on 11-of-19 shooting and 5-of-10 from distance, along with a perfect 11-of-11 mark at the line. The Warriors were getting wiped in the first half of the game, falling behind by as many as 23 points, but Curry sparked a big third-quarter run that brought Golden State within three.

"He basically put us on his shoulders for the minutes he was out there," Kerr said.

Curry has been the engine of the up-and-down Warriors this season, as he entered averaging 29.6 points, 6.8 assists and 6.6 rebounds per game. Golden State is 0-3 in the games Steph has missed this season, so they can ill afford to lose him for any time.

"It's about competing. It's about weathering the storm," Kerr said. "This has been a tough start to the season, we're in a tough stretch. Maybe it's gonna get tougher if he's out for a little while. If he's out, it'll for sure get tougher. But you just gotta perservere. You keep playing and keep fighting. It's a long season."

Wednesday’s contest marked the Warriors’ second game on a grueling six-game road trip through the Eastern Conference. Golden State has struggled mightily away from Chase Center, going 2-13 compared to 12-2 at home.
