The first returns from 2022 NBA All-Star Game fan voting are in. Perhaps it’s no surprise to see that Steph Curry (2,584,623 votes) is the Western Conference’s leading vote-getter, while Kevin Durant (2,360,435) is tops in the East. The game will be played on Feb. 20 in Cleveland.
For each conference, fans (50 percent), players (25 percent) and media (25 percent) will vote for two guards and three forwards to start in the midseason showcase. From there, the remaining seven reserves will be determined by a vote of the league’s 30 coaches.
The Warriors have been making a push for Andrew Wiggins (933,355) to make his first career All-Star Game this season and he checks in at No. 4 among Western Conference forwards, comfortably ahead of No. 5 Draymond Green (691,423).
The Athletic’s Shams Charania shared the full results via Twitter.
Despite not playing a game this season, Klay Thompson (367,743) ranks fourth among the West’s guards, ahead of superstars like Devin Booker (338,526), Chris Paul (315,912), Donovan Mitchell (217,546) and Damian Lillard (211,352).
While Curry is a lock to make his eighth straight All-Star Game and Green is a strong candidate to get voted in by the players and coaches, Wiggins still has some work to do. He is averaging 19 points per game while setting career highs in field goal percentage (49.2), 3-point field goal percentage (43.4) and 3-pointers made (2.3 per game). He has also earned the nickname "Two-Way Wiggs" for his stellar defense.
If Thompson makes the top two and is a ceremonial starter, it would be purely on his reputation and the massive support from Dub Nation. But he’ll be hard-pressed to overcome Luka Doncic (787,690) and Ja Morant (669,033).
