Celtics fans probably still have nightmares from Steph Curry during last year’s NBA Finals.
At the site where the Warriors won the 2022 championship, Steph was back up to his antics on Thursday night in Boston. The high-profile rematch was a tight one throughout the first half as Golden State went to a small lineup, with guard Jordan Poole starting for big man Kevon Looney.
The Warriors trailed by two points in the waning seconds of the first half when Klay Thompson lost the ball near the top of the key. Celtics star Jayson Tatum tried to move the ball on the fast-break, but quickly got stripped by Curry, who launched a prayer from beyond halfcourt. Splash.
Curry was visibly fired up as he walked off the floor holding a 55-54 lead. Steph went to the break with 15 points while Thompson led all scorers with 20 points at halftime, as both Splash Brothers hit four 3-pointers.
This certainly felt like a bigger regular season game than most.
The Warriors and Celtics went six games in a heated NBA Finals last year. While the Celtics crowd got in to Draymond Green’s head during a Game 3 victory, Golden State rattled off three straight victories to end it. Curry put on a performance for the ages in Game 4, dropping 43 points while silencing the crowd in Boston. The Warriors returned to win the championship in Game 6.
Golden State entered the contest with a point to prove, as the team is 0-10 on the road against teams with winning records.
