Steph Curry 'not worried' about slump, could rest quad contusion vs. Pelicans

Steph Curry struggled for the second straight game Wednesday night in Dallas. He found himself hanging awkwardly in the lane for half-hearted floaters, clanked a bunch of 3-pointers and overall just looked out of whack.

Steph served as the poster boy for the team’s struggles, as he went 5-of-24, including 1-of-9 from 3-point land en route to 14 points. In the 99-82 loss to the Dallas Mavericks, the Warriors set a season-low in points and 3-point field goal percentage (17.9) Making matters worse, Curry also hit his left knee area in a collision with a Mavericks defender and could sit Thursday’s of a back-to-back against the New Orleans Pelicans with a quad contusion.

"The way it feels right now, I'm not optimistic but we'll see,” Curry said.

Steph has now played in 35 of the team’s 37 games this season, averaging 34.7 minutes, his highest average since 2013-14. Warriors coach Steve Kerr cited the quick road turnaround as a main concern.

“He got a pretty good quad contusion,” Kerr said. “Those generally get worse overnight with the flight and everything. There’s a chance he won’t play tomorrow.”

Curry also went 3-for-17 on Monday and was held to single digits for the first time all season. A day off in The Big Easy might be a nice mental break for Curry Thursday night as well. For the season, he’s shooting just 42 percent from the field and 38.8 percent from 3-point land, down from his career marks of 47.3 percent and 43 percent, respectively.

“You just got to stick with the program,” Curry said. “I’ve never been reactive in terms of, you know, tough shooting nights or whatever. The same process and understanding the big picture of what we’re trying to do and what I’m trying to do and that it’ll come around.”

Curry admitted he’s been in a bit of a funk the past 10-15 games. In 16 contests since Nov. 30, he is averaging 24.6 points per game, while shooting just 36.7 percent from the floor and 34.7 from 3-point range.

"Usually there’s mechanics or something that I can focus on,” Curry said. “Now it’s just dealing with defenses, dealing with shots I’m going to get and staying confident. I don’t want to harp on it too much because I’m not worried at all.”

Draymond Green clearly shares Curry's same confidence.

"No worries," Green said. "Probably a 10-for-14 coming soon. It’s all good.”
