Before Wednesday night’s Game 5 between the Warriors and Kings, Golden State coach Steve Kerr said he’d love to rest Steph Curry about five minutes in each half, limiting him to about 38 minutes per game.
The circumstances of the game dictated otherwise. A game after playing nearly 43 minutes, Steph fell two seconds short of playing 42 minutes while helping the Warriors close out the Kings in the tense 123-116 victory.
During his weekly appearance on 95.7 The Game’s ‘Willard & Dibs’ Thursday, Warriors coach Steve Kerr said he’s not concerned about Curry’s workload heading into Game 6 on Friday.
“I don’t think that’ll be a factor,” Kerr told hosts Mark Willard and Dan Dibley. “Steph is in incredible shape. He’s one of the most gifted athletes in the world in terms of his conditioning and how he maintains his health and his body. The guy’s amazing. I think he’ll be fine.”
The 35-year-old Curry remains an absolute menace to keep track of on the court. A lot of the time, Steph wins the battle before he even gets the ball in his hand, as he tires out his defenders while whipping off screens and running around the floor.
Kerr caught some heat for benching Steph during a second-half Kings run in Game 1, but has been fluid with his changes throughout the series, including the decision to bring Draymond Green off the bench the past two games.
“When you win in the playoffs and you feel good about something, you just roll with it,” Kerr said. “Draymond knows that. That’s why he’s all for coming off the bench right now. Since we made that change, we’ve won three straight. So, why not stay with it?”
