Steve Kerr provides encouraging Jonathan Kuminga update

Jonathan Kuminga's long-awaited return is inching closer. The Warriors forward continues to progress, and on Monday, Steve Kerr provided an update on Willard and Dibs.

Kerr didn't put an exact timeline on Kuminga's return, but he will be with the Warriors on their upcoming five-game road trip starting Thursday against the Orlando Magic.

"He scrimmaged today for the second time," Kerr said. "The first one was just half court. Today was his first full court scrimmage, and he looked good. He was moving well. His conditioning is coming. He's done a lot of hard work to try and stay in shape, but there's nothing like playing full court. So he needs more of those scrimmages.

"Unfortunately, we don't really have any scrimmage time with our regulars coming up with all the games we have. So JK will go on the trip with us, and we will have scrimmages involving coaches and some of the younger guys who don't play as much. We'll give JK as much time as he needs. And whenever he's ready, he's ready. But he looked good today, came out of it pretty well. I talked to him afterwards. He's feeling good, so everything's coming along as we'd hoped so far."

Kerr declined to get into detail about what Kuminga's role would be when he returns to the lineup. It could be an inexact and difficult fit given how well the Warriors have been playing since adding Jimmy Butler.

The fact that Kerr stressed the Warriors would give him "as much time as he needs" and that he'll have more scrimmages is telling that it might not be at the very start of the road trip. But Kuminga will be back in days or weeks, not months.
