Golden State Warriors

Steve Kerr talks Warriors' stance at trade deadline as Suns show interest in Draymond Green

The NBA trade deadline is creeping ever closer, and the Golden State Warriors are reportedly very actives on the phones. Shams Charania of ESPN reported that Golden State has called about every All-Star in the league, and that they remain suitors for Jimmy Butler.

With everything swirling, Steve Kerr joined Willard and Dibs and said that he'd be comfortable if the Warriors stand pat.

"I'm very comfortable if we don't end up doing anything," Kerr said. "I'm also very practical. I think we live in a time where everybody wants to fix right now, and it's, it's really not that feasible to to look at our situation, where we are as an organization, the assets that we have, is it really feasible to go and and make some huge deal that's going to turn us into a contender? I mean, it's really, really hard to do that. At the same time, it would be insane to trade away all our future picks for a wild swing at something. And we know that."

Despite that statement, the Warriors are clearly sniffing around making a, as Kerr called it, a "home run swing."

Kevin Durant, according to multiple reports, is also of interest, with Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated reporting the Warriors would like a reunion. That may only be possible if the Suns' talks to acquire Butler fall through and they pivot to moving Durant.

Kerr was asked about Durant's play and called him "timeless."

According to The Athletic's Sam Amick, David Aldridge and Anthony Slater, the Suns have interest in Draymond Green, but are only offering the Warriors an "exorbitant asking price." The Suns, Amick posits, could move Durant to try to then acquire Butler.

Here's how Amick framed Jonathan Kuminga's availability in this context:

"The Suns also have indicated a level of interest in fourth-year forward Jonathan Kuminga, a player the Warriors drafted seventh overall in 2021, have been protective of in most trade discussions for years and still view as part of the future. But Durant’s potential availability, and this once-unthinkable notion of him reuniting with the franchise he helped lead to two titles, has a way of altering the discussion."
