Warriors acquire Ryan Rollins, Gui Santos in second round of NBA Draft

After picking Patrick Baldwin Jr. at No. 28 overall in the first round, the Warriors wrapped up the 2022 NBA Draft by making a couple of moves in the second round.

Golden State negotiated a trade with the Atlanta Hawks, as the Warriors jumped up to the No. 44 pick by shipping the No. 51 selection to and $2 million, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The Warriors essentially selected Toledo guard Ryan Rollins with the Hawks’ pick at No. 44, while Atlanta got UConn forward Tyrese Martin with the No. 51 overall pick.

The 6-foot-4 Rollins averaged 18.9 points and 6.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game during his sophomore season while shooting 46.8 percent from the floor. Myers said the Warriors brought in Rollins for a 3-on-3 workout in the pre-draft process.

"He plays well on the defensive side," Myers said. "We have him at about 6'4" with a 6'9" or 6'10" wingspan. A lot of characteristics we like in a player, the length, the skillset. That shot creation is always valuable. We like his competitive spirit."

With their selection at No. 55 overall, the Warriors picked 6-foot-8, 20-year-old Brazilian forward Gui Santos, who should be viewed as a development project who could be monitored while continuing to play overseas. Santos has ties with Brazilian Warriors assistant coach Leandro Barbosa.

At this juncture with the Warriors, the NBA Draft isn’t a major priority for the franchise. Core players like Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins are signed through next season or beyond, while youngsters Jordan Poole, Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody and James Wiseman also figure into the future plans.

So the Warriors will likely roll into Summer League with three new draftees -- though the franchise hasn't decided if Santos will come to the United States this season. Chase Center will host the four-team California Classic on July 2-3, before Las Vegas will host Summer League from July 7-17.
