Warriors general manager Bob Myers says "all indications are" pointing to forward Andrew Wiggins playing in Game 1 of the Warriors' first-round playoff series against the Kings set to take place on Saturday night in Sacramento.
"He scrimmaged the other day, looked good. They're going to scrimmage today. All indications are he'll be ready to go. But how many minutes? I don't know. How he'll be used? That will be up to Steve [Kerr] and the staff," Myers said when he joined 95.7 The Game's "Steiny and Guru" Wednesday afternoon.
Wiggins' return doesn't come as a surprise after ESPN’s Kendra Andrews reported Golden State is fully expecting to have him back in the playoff opener when she joined 95.7 The Game’s “Willard & Dibs” Monday afternoon. But it's certainly a positive to get confirmation straight from the organization.
Barring any injuries between now and the opening, Wiggins’ return could bring the team to full strength for the first time since Gary Payton II was acquired at the trade deadline. The Warriors would love to add his two-way abilities ASAP, even if he has a minutes restriction.
"I'm just thrilled that he's back and he's going to give us something. I don't know what Steve will decide as far as who starts, who comes off the bench. … The beauty of a guy like that is that he helps you immediately defensively. Offensively, we'll see what he's got as far as rhythm goes. But he knows what we do. I can't sit here and say (how many minutes he's going to play), but the good news is that all indications are he's going to play. And I think it will build from there. It's good he's coming back at the start of the playoffs rather than later, so we're excited."
