The Warriors have reportedly added an intriguing veteran piece in their bid to return to the top of the NBA.
Golden State was reportedly in agreement with combo forward Otto Porter Jr. hours after the league's frenzied free agency signing period kicked off on Tuesday.
The deal is for one year and a minimum salary, and Porter actually turned down more lucrative offers to join Golden State, according to Chris B. Haynes of Yahoo Sports.
Porter, 28, had established himself as a strong wing player with the Washington Wizards, the team that drafted him 3rd overall out of Georgetown in 2013, before a series of injuries have dimmed his star to some degree in recent years.
The eight-year veteran has since been traded to the Chicago Bulls and later the Orlando Magic, with whom he finished out last season.
Porter's expired contract paid him north of $106M over four years, after the Wizards matched an offer from the Brooklyn Nets in July 2017. The Nets were again reported to be interested in signing Porter this time around, but again seem to have come up short.
Porter, now looking to recapture his previous form, should provide versatility on both ends of the floor -- he's a strong shooter and flexible on defense -- for the Warriors as they seek to return to prominence in the Western Conference.
The Porter signing was reported just hours after it was reported the team had reached an agreement with franchise icon Stephen Curry on a four-year extension worth roughly $215M.
