Warriors trading for Dennis Schroeder [reports]
The Golden State Warriors are making a move. With De'Anthony Melton out for the season, and a need for another ball handler with some scoring ability, Golden State is on the brink of trading for Dennis Schroeder, according to multiple reports.
Per The Athletic's Anthony Slater and ESPN's Shams Charania Golden State will send three second-round picks to the Nets along with De'Anthony Melton's contract and receive Schroeder and one second-round pick from Brooklyn. The deal can't be official until Sunday.
It's a clear win for Golden State, converting a lost player into a resurgent one. Schroeder put up 31 points against the Warriors and has averaged 18.4 points per game at age 31, the highest for him in a season since 2019-20, when he had 18.9 points per game and was second in Sixth Man of the Year voting.
He's also shooting a career-best 38.7 percent from deep this season, and 45.2 percent from the field, the second-highest mark of his career, only behind that 2019-20 campaign. This is while averaging 6.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game, more career-best averages for him.
