Woj: Damion Lee placed in NBA's health and safety protocols

Damion Lee reportedly has become the third Warriors player to land in the NBA’s health and safety protocols as COVID-19 continues to spread around the league. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski broke the news on Wednesday afternoon.

Lee joins Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole in the health and safety protocols. The Warriors are in the process of signing guard Quinndary Weatherspoon from the G League Santa Cruz Warriors to add some more wing depth. Under the NBA's amended roster rules, the Warriors may have to make a second replacement signing with three players in protocols.

Lee is averaging 8.4 points in 20.8 minutes off the bench this season and dropped 18 in Monday’s 113-98 win over the Sacramento Kings. He has struggled from the floor (43.8 percent) and with his 3-point shot (34.9 percent) throughout the campaign, as he works toward a guaranteed contract. If Lee is still on the Warriors roster Jan. 10 his contract will guarantee.

Coach Steve Kerr told reporters that Andre Iguodala missed Wednesday’s practice with knee soreness and he’s looking doubtful for Thursday’s home game against the Memphis Grizzlies. Rookie Jonathan Kuminga is expected to be available after exiting Monday’s contest with lower back tightness.

According to CBS Sports, nearly 100 players across 21 teams in the NBA are currently in the health and safety protocols as the omicron COVID-19 variant spreads rapidly around the country. The NBA has made contingency plans for Christmas day, when the Warriors are set to play the Phoenix Suns in a marquee holiday matchup.
