Little leaguer Isaiah Jarvis went viral last week for his great show of sportsmanship.
After the 12-year-old got plunked in the head by Kaiden Shelton in Southwest Region championship game in Waco, Texas, Shelton looked shaken on the mound. So Jarvis went to the mound and hugged the pitcher, in a clip that has been viewed more than 22 million times on Twitter.
Earlier this week, 95.7 The Game brand manager Matt Nahigian got in contact with Jarvis’ father and set up a special surprise – as he got to virtually meet one of his favorite players, 2022 Tampa Bay Rays fifth-rounder and former Arkansas baseball star Jalen Battles.
“Oh my gosh, that’s awesome,” a starstuck Jarvis said over Zoom.
“I appreciate that,” Battles said. “You know what’s funny? When I was younger I’d always get hit all the time, it’s crazy. I was like a ball magnet.”
Jarvis said he first went to an Arkansas game and like Battles because he saw another tall slugger on the field.
Battles said he was impressed with the pose Jarvis showed in his moment with Shelton.
“The way you handled that, it was very heartwarming for other people to see,” Battles told Jarvis. “When I was that age, if somebody got in the head, it’s like, ‘We’re ready to fight.’ The game’s come a long way. You have something special that people can’t teach. That’s what I admire the most.”
Kudos to Jarvis for his sportsmanship and thanks to Battles for making this special moment happen.
