The Houston Astros were able to avoid the wrath of fans across baseball last year due to the pandemic, but they will have a tougher time escaping the hate this season.
Alex Bregman found that out on Sunday — and it wasn’t even a fan that was the culprit!
According to Astros beat reporter Chandler Rome, a security guard who works at Roger Dean Stadium during Miami Marlins spring training games was banging on a trash can before every pitch of a Bregman at-bat during the fourth inning.
No video of the at-bat exists, but Bregman, perhaps rattled by this security guard, struck out looking.
Last season, during the playoffs, Minnesota Twins fans banged on a trash can outside of Target Field during their first-round wild-card matchup. During the ALDS in San Diego, fans heckled the Astros through a megaphone from a balcony outside the stadium.
The Astros can probably expect more of this to come once the regular season starts, but it probably should not be coming from the security guards if we’re being honest.
