The Knicks were optimistic heading into the 2020 NBA Draft Lottery on Thursday night. You can see it from their social media page.

But I'm imagining that the "it" that Patrick Ewing was referring to was not the No. 8 overall pick. And that's exactly what the Knicks got.

I have to give credit to the Knicks' social media and graphics team for getting that picture up so quickly. After all, it wasn't very likely that the Knicks landed the eighth pick, with a 20.6% chance of ending up there as opposed to a 37.2% chance of being in the top four. I also have to give them credit for keeping their cool: a lot of Knicks nation had trouble concealing their frustration. It's not very New Yorker-ish to hide that anger, anyway, but it's always entertaining. It's also entertaining to see Nets fans interspersed among the angry Knicks fans as they poke fun at their New York counterparts.

However, Schmeelk -- a frequent WFAN contributor -- saw some light at the end of the tunnel.

It wasn't only the fans that expressed their feelings. The NBA universe reacted -- sometimes in a crude manner -- as well, as players watched in disbelief at the continuation of the Knicks' poor draft fortune.

Dinwiddie even responded to a fan who wanted the Knicks to offer the No. 8 pick in return for his services, saying that Knicks fans wouldn't be thrilled with that move.

Fortunately for Knicks fans -- although I'm not really sure it would improve their moods at all -- they weren't alone in their frustration. The Hawks, who finished with the No. 6 overall pick, had the fourth-highest odds entering the lottery. Their star wasn't thrilled with the result.

It also seems as though Mikal Bridges was upset with the Suns' draw of the No. 10 pick... which is a little odd, considering Bridges was the No. 10 pick himself.

But hey, for the Knicks, Hawks and Suns, it may not be so bad. With a lack of a strong consensus as to which prospect should go first overall, and even which guys make up the top five, anything can happen, especially in a year where scouting was difficult to come by.
