DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - According to a recent report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Dallas Cowboys are unlikely to reach an agreement on a contract extension with quarterback Dak Prescott before Sunday's season opener against the New York Giants.

Prescott's camp has been in negotiations with the Cowboys front office for most of the offseason, and while no headway has been made as of yet on either side, the Cowboys will avoid a hold out from their fourth-year starting quarterback, who is set suit up and play on Sunday.

Per Schefter's report, the Cowboys quarterback has good reasons for not pushing the Cowboys to get a deal done, including loss of value and disability insurance, and a multitude of multi-year endorsement deals, the totals of which reach beyond $50 million.

The insurance deals, which protect Prescott financially should he suffer major injury before his contract extension is reached, are, according to Schefter, similar to what Los Angeles Rams star defensive tackle Aaron Donald had in place during his negotiations during his last extension.

Prescott and Donald share the same agent, Todd France.

In his three years in Dallas, Prescott has thrown for 10,876 yards, 67 touchdowns, and 25 interceptions, while completing 66.1-percent of his passes, and helping to lead the Cowboys to a 32-16 record.

Prescott will open up the season behind center for the Cowboys at home against the Giants at 3:25 p.m. CT.
